Mosquito Helicopter Treatment of Larval Breeding Site

Published on Tuesday, 13 October 2026 at 7:54:17 AM

Today the Environmental Health team will be working with an accredited helicopter contractor to conduct larvicide treatment.

Treatment will occur on the Coastal wetlands Dalyellup to Rich Road, Stratham.

The helicopter may be observed working across these areas dispersing granular larvicides across the wetland larval breeding sites.

Biting adults are likely to be present at this time of the year due to the large volumes of standing water across the Shire.

Please note that whilst mosquito-borne viruses have not been detected so far this season, the Shire highly recommends the public to take protective measures to avoid being bitten.
The most effective way to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes is:
• Cover Up – wear long, loose-fitting, light-coloured clothing, covering as much of the body as you can.
• Repel – apply an effective insect repellent containing DEET (diethyltoluamide), picaridin or Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus (OLE, also known as PMD) evenly to exposed skin.
• Clean Up - The Shire encourages landowners and tenants to maintain their yards. To keep mosquito numbers low, please remove, empty or cover water-holding containers. Keep grass short to stop mosquitoes hanging around your home.
