The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2026 is All In, a call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation.
All In makes it clear that reconciliation is not a spectator sport and that all of us must step away from the sidelines and take action to make change.
For the Shire of Capel, that looks like signing on the line and starting real conversations. We were recently the first Local Government Authority to sign a Noongar Standard Heritage Agreement with Gnaala Karla Booja Aboriginal Corporation (GKBAC).
We further commit to not just signing but working closely with GKBAC to build a strong foundational and mutually-beneficial relationship that recognises GKBAC’s cultural authority in their ILUA area and supports all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples living and working on Wardandi Noongar Booja.
The Shire is working on an Aboriginal Engagement Framework to ensure culturally sensitive and appropriate approaches to projects, employment opportunities and procurement so that all of community can benefit from the vast knowledge and rich culture graciously shared by our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We are allies and we are proud to be allies. We are ‘ALL IN’.
The artwork for this campaign is by renowned Gumbaynggirr/Bundjalung artist Otis Hope Carey, who applied his distinctive style to create a colourful and optimistic visual representation of people from all walks of life being ‘all in’ to make change.
